Session 1 HAVE A STRESS-FREE TIMBER SALE

From identifying your goals to the final closeout of your sale, this session will introduce you to the steps and timeline involved in conducting a successful timber sale. Topics will include guidance on selecting a logger, why a timber sale contract is important and supervisory steps involved in conducting a harvest.

Session 2 FAMILY CONVERSATIONS FOR THE FUTURE OF YOUR WOODLANDS

Have you already decided what is going to happen with your woodlands in the future? Do your heirs know? Do you know what your heirs want to happen? This session will cover important steps in having this conversation with your family and developing a plan for the
future.

Session 3 FIND YOUR CORNERS & LEARN THE LAWS OF THE WOODS

Learn how to identify your boundaries and the importance of annually walking them. Then learn how various laws apply to your woodland: Trespass Law, Recreational Use Statute and the Fence Law. The session concludes with a brief look at how your woodlands can affect your income taxes.

Session 4 INVITE WILDLIFE TO YOUR WOODLAND

Learn to enhance your woodlands to attract a variety of wildlife. This session identifies the
four requirements to attracting wildlife to your land—space, water, food and shelter—and
offers tips on how to manage your woods to improve wildlife potential.

Session 5 “TALK SHOP” WITH YOUR FORESTER

Does it sound like your forester speaks another language? This session will discuss the principles of how trees grow and define common forestry terms such as “thinning,” “selection harvest” and “basal area.” Gain a greater understanding of “forestry-speak”
and how a recommended woodland activity may impact your woodland.
