This hybrid series will feature Jeff Sorenson, the DNR service forester from Marathon County, and be available both in person and online .

Learn About Your Land is a UW-Madison Extension Forestry program intended for Wisconsin woodland owners. The series of classes introduces landowners to forestry topics and local DNR foresters. All classes will run 1.5 hours with the last 15 minutes reserved for YOUR QUESTIONS.

Session 1: Have a Stress-Free Timber Sale- Tuesday 6:30-8 PM (10/24/23)

This session is an introduction to the steps and timeline involved in conducting a successful timber sale from deciding what to harvest to final closeout of your sale. Topics will include guidance on selecting a logger, why a timber sale contract is important, and the supervisory steps involved in conducting a harvest.

Session 2: Invite Wildlife to Your Woodland – Tuesday 6:30-8 PM (10/31/23)

Learn to enhance your woodlands to attract a variety of wildlife. This session identifies the four requirements to attracting wildlife
to your land: space, water, food and shelter, as well as how you can manage your woods to improve the wildlife potential.

Session 3: Family Conversations for the Future of Your WoodlandsTuesday 6:30-8 PM (11/7/23)

Have you already decided what is going to happen with your woodlands in the future? Do your heirs know? Do you know what your heirs want to happen? This session will cover important steps in having a conversation with your family and developing a plan for the future.

The cost is $30 to attend all three classes. Fees must be paid online by October 20 to attend the first week. Please indicate whether you will be attending the classes in-person at the library or virtually via the internet when registering. Additional instructions will be sent to the email used when registering.
