Learn About Your Land is a UW-Madison Extension Forestry program intended for Wisconsin woodland owners. The series of classes introduces landowners to forestry topics and local DNR foresters.

This series will be held in-person at the Barron County Government Center in Barron, WI and feature the DNR forester from Barron County. All classes will run 1 hour with the last 15 minutes reserved for YOUR QUESTIONS.

Session 1: Tree Planting – Wednesday March 8, 6-7 PM CT

Planting a tree

This session will identify what is needed to successfully plant and nurture new trees. Learn which trees will grow best on your land, how to prepare your land, techniques for planting, and how to care for newly planted trees.

Session 2: Legal Issues for Landowners – Wednesday March 22, 6-7 PM CT

Fence Line?

What can walking your woodland boundaries do for you? Learn how to identify your boundaries, and the importance of annually walking them. Then learn how various laws apply to your woodland: Trespass Law, Recreational Use Statute, and the Fence Law. The session concludes with a brief look at how your woodlands can affect your income taxes.

Session 3: Assistance with your Woodlands – Wednesday March 29, 6-7 PM CT

The cost is $20 to attend all three classes. Fees must be paid online by March 6th to attend the first week.
