Learn About Your Land is a UW-Madison Extension Forestry program intended for Wisconsin woodland owners. The series of classes introduces landowners to forestry topics and local DNR foresters.

This series will be held ONLINE and feature the DNR foresters from St. Croix County. All classes will run 1 hour with the last 10 minutes reserved for YOUR QUESTIONS.

Session 1: TREE IDENTIFICATION
Tuesday, January 17, 2023 7–8 pm CT

Join a forester as you get to know what trees are in your woods. We will review the major trees you will likely find on your property, how to identify others when you return to your property, and learn what uses each tree has.

Session 2: INVASIVE SPECIES IDENTIFICATION AND CONTROL
Thursday, January 19, 2023 7–8 pm CT

Are you having problems identifying and controlling invasive plants on your property?” If so, then this class is for you. We will describe the most problematic invasive plants for woodlands in Wisconsin and recommend ways to control them.

Session 3: GETTING INFORMATION FROM THE WEB
Tuesday, January 24, 2023 7–8 pm CT

Do a web search for forestry or woodlands, and you will be overwhelmed by the amount of information on the internet. This session will cover several key resources for Wisconsin woodland owners such as sources for aerial photos, tax information, and general WI woodland owner assistance.

Session 4: THE LANGUAGE OF FORESTERS
Thursday, January 26, 2023 7–8 pm CT

Do you wonder what a forester means when they use certain words? Gain an understanding of what is meant by thinning, selection harvest, group selection harvest, clear cut and shelterwood harvest. Learn what each term means, when each is used, and what it will look like if a forester recommends it for your woodland.

Registration fee is $20 per person, which includes all four webinars.
Register by January 13, 2023 to attend the first week of class.

Class links will be sent after registration payment is received.
